About TURANDOT
TUning Risc-V to Automotive Needs & Different Other Themes
Our mission
TURANDOT is a flagship European initiative under the Chips Joint Undertaking, aiming to establish strategic autonomy and leadership in automotive semiconductor technologies through the development of high-performance RISC-V processors. TURANDOT co-develops a modular and open hardware platform, specifically tailored for next-generation automotive applications.
Beyond hardware design, the project will create a qualified IP repository, integrate dedicated AI and ML accelerators and develop safety-critical software stacks. It will also provide benchmarking frameworks, industry-aligned quality assurance processes and interoperable demonstrator platforms that showcase the maturity and competitiveness of the European RISC-V ecosystem.
By the end of the project, TURANDOT will have established a sustainable innovation ecosystem across the European value chain, catalysing the adoption of RISC-V in automotive and adjacent domains, reducing vendor lock-in and strengthening Europe’s digital sovereignty – in direct support of the goals of the European Chips Act.
How we work
The work plan is designed as a pipeline – Requirements → Tools → Hardware/Software → System Integration → Demonstrators → Results – with project management keeping plans, budget and gates on track.
Foundation
Customer requirements – latency, accuracy, safety, security and cost – are collected into a single specification (WP1) and translated into shared design tools, flows, libraries and templates (WP2).
Development
Hardware IP and full chips (WP3) and the software stack – compilers, drivers, runtimes and SDKs (WP4) – are co-designed in lockstep, with the common repository (WP7) as the single source of truth.
Integration & validation
Reference platforms are assembled (WP5) and proven in real automotive applications (WP6), feeding results and fixes back into development.
Results
Silicon demonstrators, a reference European platform that OEMs can adopt, and an open repository that others can immediately reuse.
